From October last year

...TO FILL YOU IN... the 100 Mile Diet is a concept of eating locally within a 100 miles of your home. This concept appealed to me greatly for several reasons. As a BnB owner of Wallaby Ridge Retreat, we wanted to embrace local food and produce and now have chosen a context to do this.

We also wanted to reduce our food miles and carbon footprint by eating seasonally, supporting local community and business and networking with local producers. The surprises have already started: unexpected produce such as Walnuts which I wouldnt have dreamt would have grown around here for instance.
Being introduced to a group of enthusiastic supportive producers on Beechmont (BBEN) who have some fantastic and innovative product such as cordials, raw milk and an array of growing produce has been a joy!

My limited time to date has been source those items that generally are staples to me: flour, oats rice, the more boring sort of stuff, but stuff I thought we would have difficulty sourcing. Plenty of Oats are available for horses locally but for humans...
Once some of these issues are nutted I can start experimenting with seasonal produce and finding the trickier ingredients...
How refreshing it is that most of the locally grown and produced stuff is organic or certified organic, what a bonus!
Hope you enjoy the journey with me...
